AN
EXPLORATORY RESEARCH PAPER TITLED
“INTRAPRENEURSHIP IN TOURISM”
ABSTRACT
This paper contributes to the development of
the theory of Intrapreneurship in relation to tourism by clarifying the
Intrapreneurship concept. Intrapreneurship refers to employee initiatives in
organizations to undertake something new, without being asked to do so. Major
activities related to Intrapreneurship include opportunity perception, idea generation,
designing a new product/service or another recombination of resources, internal
coalition building, persuading the management, resource acquisition, planning
and organizing. Some commendable research work is done in this field clarifying
the concept of Intrapreneurship e.g. Intrapreneurship:
Conceptualizing intrapreneurial employee behaviour by Jeroen
de Jong & Sander Wennekers (2008), Clarifying the Intrapreneurship concept by Bostjan
Antoncic and Robert D. Hisrich, Intrapeneurship: An Exploraory Study of Select
Norwegian Industries by Alf Steinar Saetre (2001). We would definitely like to take help from these
literature.
Keywords: Intrapreneurship, Tourism,
Management, Conceptualization.
INTRODUCTION:
The
organization today stress its employee “to be more innovative” which means
obviously taking risk allowing to try out new things/system which have never
been applied before. This requests a fair deal of access to the proper
information to minimize that uncertainty before implicating something new.
As the
ever-present headaches of trying to balance maximizing profit and margin with
investing for growth, it is imperative implementing short-term, high-impact
initiatives with long-term, strategic thinking, and planning and focusing on a
business a whole.
“Intrapreneurship”,
thus, is an interesting concept, but one which is not very sought after. The
need for innovation within organizations is a topic of much debate today as
entrepreneurship has finally caught the world's attention.
